Restorative Yoga can be considered the Yin asana practice to the Yang asana practice of active standing poses, backbends and arm balances. Both sides of the lead the practitioner towards the Seat of the Soul.
Restorative yoga is a time for the body and mind to meditate. The body “meditates” on one position maintained for up to 20 minutes. This position is chosen in a sequence of poses or sometimes one pose may be all we need and have time for that day. Each pose offers an opening to release the body in a way that promotes circulation, respiratory activity and creates an environment that the mind may to tend shift attention from the physical world to the ethereal space within and around the body. The body at rest allows the mind to detangle from busy life. A mind at rest can expand and release like the waves of breath, the consciousness rest in it’s own seat of splendor.
